Clemens Ascher’s ongoing series Of Forms and Traces explores the relationship among forms seen in the arts and those present in everyday life. Its focus lies on the interplay between the abstract character of forms and the representational, emotional or poetic dimensions of the object photographed and the photo itself. The photographs were shot over a period of more than five years in undisclosed locations across the globe. To Clemens, the book serves as a collection of – and a reflection on – forms. Equally, it represents a fragmentary and personal encyclopaedia of intriguing objects and places.
