1xZHT summarizes the ten-year work and activities of curator Ueli Vogt at the Zeughaus Teufen. In a condensation of images, most of which he took himself, and of press articles, postcards, posters, invitation cards and documentary photography, the first part of the book shows Ueli Vogt’s working method. He uses the exhibition format (and novel formats such as the ‘Zwischenstellung’ or in-between positions) as a method of investigation, sees chaos as an opportunity, uses dilettantism passionately and finds that coincidence is a gift. The pictorial grid in the book appears ornamental, seems to be strict, but then very imprecise and chaotic – individual exhibitions become one big one or an intuitive continuum that resembles surfing on an endless wave.
The 11,072 illustrations show guests, artists, staff, the public and the countless projects (72 exhibitions, 109 events, 645 guided tours, 59 school tours, 30 school visits) that Ueli Vogt has carried out during his ten years as curator of the Zeughaus Teufen.
In the second part of the book, 17 contributions illuminate diverse perspectives. Like the network that spans the Zeughaus Teufen and the people who (used to) work in it, the texts are multi-voiced.
